Last fall, volunteers put in new plantings around the North Amherst Library, mostly to take the place of the stately old beech tree that had to be taken down, but also as a part of a larger landscape beautification effort. This spring, we began to see and enjoy the results. Here, the scene in early May (in the background of the first shot: the historic
1826 North Congregational Church).
The structure itself—Amherst's oldest library building—acquired a newly colorful aspect
when it was repainted, thanks to a Town Meeting appropriation under the Community Preservation Act.
Repairs this coming year, likewise to be supported with CPA funds, will help to stabilize the building's foundation (reports to follow).
